Sledging in Ahrntal Valley

Sledging with your friends or with your family through the Ahrntal Valley

Sled, luge, baby bobsled, a plastic bag, or many more extravagant conveyances: for the magnificent amusement of racing down snow-covered paths, hillsides, ski slopes, and tracks on one’s behind, the human species has become exceptionally creative.

Anyone who wants to head to the heights will do best to start at the top, and in the Ahrntal Valley and Sand in Taufers/Campo Tures with its villages, those ready to sled will find the absolutely finest conditions for it. Because with its location on the main ridge of the Alps, it is among the areas of South Tyrol-Südtirol most certain to have snow, which guarantees sledding fun every winter for every taste, from the little hill to a good downward slide to a demonic descent for the especially daring.

There are sled-friendly Alpine refuges and sled rentals practically everywhere. A few examples: for friends of nature with the family along, there is a lighted sledding trail in Weißenbach/Rio Bianco. The 80 meter (260 foot) change in elevation up to the Malga Busegge-Busegge Alm can be comfortably managed with a half hour hike through snow-covered woods. More demanding, though, is the sledding trail from the Speikboden to Rio Bianco. A two hour climb is rewarded with a 7 km (4.5 mile) long descent. And those who are not so enthusiastic about hiking uphill take the cablecar Speikboden and will love the long descent starting from the mountain terminal on the Speikboden.

Easier also at the Klausberg, where you can take the cable car up to the start of the 5 km (3 mile) long sled run and then indulge in the enjoyment of the “après sled” immediately afterward. Incidentally, that is also the location of the Klausberg Flitzer, Italy’s longest Alpine roller coaster!

Put the helmet on and with shrieks of delight on the inner tube, and let the fun begin! The conveyor belt and flood lights at the snow&fun familypark tamarix guarantee long-lasting sliding fun for the entire family! o conveyor belts and snow castle at the Family-Funpark Speikboden.

And whoever wants to absolutely breathe in nature will seek out one of the numerous sled runs where it is necessary to first hike up into the heights before the fast fun begins!

 Sledge Run Luttach
10.0 km
950 m

The Speikboden ski area is a place with great variety – above all else when it comes to what is available in the way of activities. It is not just skiing and snowboarding that are the order of the day, but also sledding, a winter sport with a huge fun factor that is very popular especially with families and children. In this ski area, there are two sled runs at once, one of which can boast the distinction of being the longest sled run in all South Tyrol-Südtirol. The starting point of both sled runs is located at the mountain terminal which can be reached without any problems with the Speikboden cable car.

With a length of 10 km (6.2 miles), sledders leisurely head down a very well-groomed sled run – which can even be covered with man-made snow, if necessary – all the way to Lutago-Luttach. The second sled run, which is just as wide with a total length of 8 km (5 miles) has the same starting point, but after a couple of miles it turns off toward Rio Bianco-Weißenbach. From either of the destinations, sledders can be picked up again by the ski bus or public bus and taken back to the valley terminal to head up again.
Also particularly popular is the weekly Rodelgaudisledding party, a sledding event that is open to everyone.

Safe sledging through Ahrntal Valley
Some advices for a safe sledging on the runs
Special: Toboggan and torch
Tobogganing is fun, even at night. Tobogganing at night is a beloved hobby in South Tyrol and worth a try. Every Tuesday between 7.30 pm and 10.00 pm our new K-Express brings you up to 1.600 meters. There, a 5 kilometres long toboggan run awaits you. Enjoy the nightly sky on two runners and come back up once again using our evening card.
Alpine Coaster "Klausberg-Flitzer"

“Can I have another ride? “ This is a typical question that children ask their parents after getting off the Klausberg- Flitzer. It is not surprising: one ride on Italy’s longest Alpine rollercoaster is simply very funny.
The toboggan run is situated next to the mountain station of the Ski and hiking arena Klausberg in Steinhaus/Cadipietra in the Ahrntal/Valle Aurina. With 1800 m length, little jumps, 360 degree spins and bends the Klausberg Flitzer offers fun and excitement during the family holiday. With a lift you reach the mountain on the sledge. Excitement is increasing and there you go – down the mountain in a speedy ride. Everyone can decide for themselves the speed. It is simple and safe. Putting the lever forward: you accelerate, putting the lever backward you slow down! Just get in and there you go! And the best: The Klausberg-Flitzer is opened in the summer and in the winter.
