Overview

AHRNTAL VALLEY

HOME OF MOUNTAINS

The Ahrntal valley is the hiking region on the sunny side of the Zillertal Alps, located in the middle of the South Tyrolean mountains. A holiday area between 860 and 3,499 meters above sea level, surrounded by majestic mountain groups. Unadulterated nature, long preserved culture and open cordiality are characteristic of the approximately 50 km long Ahrntal valley.

Where nature has prepared so much to discover, people will actively do so. Sliding the feet into the hiking boots or pushing the pedals, cutting a curve with the skis, stomping thick covers of snow down flat or looking for a foothold in a narrow crack in the rock – in the Ahrntal valley, there is always plenty to do.

Anyone who feels like heading upward can scale one or another of the more than 80 three thousand meter (ten thousand foot) peaks, which surround the valley like the points on a crown. Here, where extreme mountain climber Hans Kammerlander makes his home, the crosses on top of the summits are a challenging destination for an excursion, competing for attention with archetypal mountain refuges and crystal-clear Alpine lakes.

In the winter, too. Because anyone who wishes to experience the quiet side of wintertime, beyond the hectic action on the ski runs of the Skiworld Ahrntal, can do so on a snowshoe hike or a ski tour.
