Whenever the festival pavilion in Sand in Taufers opens its doors, it transforms on its regular
biennial cycle into the central hub for exceptional culinary culture and passionate craftsmanship. Over the years, this traditional
Cheese Festival has become an essential gathering place for the international "cheese family."
Renowned South Tyrolean producers, European artisans, and innovative newcomers meet as peers to present their handcrafted specialties and exchange ideas with an enthusiastic audience.
The showcase features an overwhelming variety of superb quality that extends far beyond exquisite cheese selections. Alongside South Tyrolean speck, cured meats, fine chutneys, mustard, and baked goods, the market offers olive oils, herbal products, wines, craft beers, spirits, and even natural cosmetics. Special emphasis is placed on protected Slow Food Presidia dedicated to preserving traditional production methods - led by the local flagship product, the
Ahrntal Graukäse.
A
diverse side program turns this biennial visit into an interactive experience for all generations. Leading cheese experts guide visitors through
tasting sessions on thematic journeys ranging from the history of Swiss cheeses to French blue cheese variations and the harmonious pairing of cheese and wine. While International and South Tyrolean chefs prepare local culinary dishes in the
show kitchen and Tosco-Romagnolo delicacies tempt visitors in the atrium, younger guests are equally delighted. Through the
children's program, kids can craft their own cheese or participate in real tastings just like the adults.
