Overview

Waterfalls Riva / Reinbach

Wild water flows, roars, and then... cascades. Into the abyss, carved out over millennia by brute force. Deafening. Churning. The light is refracted by the mist. Water fireworks of many colours. A captivating spectacle all year round.

The three Rio di Riva waterfalls, accessible from the hamlet of Bad Winkel, showcase a stunning natural spectacle. Situated in the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park, these waterfalls are particularly striking during the summer months. Fed by melting snow, the Rio di Riva cascades dramatically in three stages over the rocky cliffs, allowing visitors to fully experience the sheer power of the water through all their senses.

The St. Francis' Path, featuring ten meditative spots, accompanies the route to the waterfalls and leads up to the Franziskus and Klara Chapel.

Franziskus and Klara Chapel in the "Toblburg"
At Tobl once stood the first castle of the Lords of Taufers. In 1309, a document revealed that Hugo VI of Taufers had allocated a sum of money for the establishment of a monastery in honor of Saint Clare. Although the monastery was never founded, the legend of the monastery at Tobl spread among the people. Over time, the castle fell into ruin, but the chapel remained partially intact. In 1982, the municipality of Sand in Taufers, under the guidance of Peter Aichner, began the restoration of the oldest church in the Tauferer-Ahrntal valley. The sanctuary was consecrated in accordance with Hugo VI's wishes to Saint Clare and Saint Francis of Assisi and was furnished by the Ahrntal Carving School with a double statue, a cross, an altar, and seating.
