GSTC-certified: An important step on our journey

GSTC Certification & South Tyrol Sustainability Label® Level 3

We are delighted that our destination has been certified according to the international sustainability criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and holds the South Tyrol Sustainability Label Level 3.

The certification confirms the path we have taken and our ongoing commitment to the future-oriented development of our region. At the same time, it encourages us to take further bold steps together with all those involved: our goal is to preserve a valley fit for future generations, where both the people who live here and you as our guests can continue to experience and enjoy this place in its current form for many years to come. A place that uses its resources responsibly and preserves its distinctive characteristics for generations to come.

Sand in Taufers & Ahrntal Climate Communities

European Energy Award for energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly action

Alongside the provincial capital of Bolzano, Sand in Taufers is the only community in South Tyrol to have been awarded the international “Gold Climate Community” certification. Ahrntal was honoured as “Climate Community Silver”. Under the mantle of the European initiative, the European Energy Award is conferred upon communities that show extraordinary commitment in the areas of energy-efficiency and climate protection. Other communities in South Tyrol are following the communite of Sand in Taufers and Ahrntal with the aim of increasing the quality of life of everyone over the long term. This can be felt most directly in lower energy costs and, seen over the long term, in cleaner and more intact natural surroundings. Furthermore, the measures contribute to worldwide climate protection and help to achieve the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations.

The European Energy Award

The European Energy Award is an international quality management and certification tool for municipal climate protection, in which at present 18 countries and more than 1,800 communities with over 77 million citizens are taking part. An award is conferred if a community implements more than 50 per cent of all possible measures to improve energy efficiency, ensure supply with renewable energies and for climate protection. If a community goes so far as to implement more than 75 per cent of all possible energy and climate-related measures, it is recognised with the Gold European Energy Award.
