Overview
In winter, wild animals are forced to conserve their resources due to the cold and a shortage of food. Having built up a layer of fat, and with a slowed pulse and thick fur, they seek out places where they can overwinter undisturbed. With knowledge and respect, we people can contribute a lot towards ensuring that they survive the cold months of the year:
  • steer clear of snow-covered slopes, rocky and snow-free areas above the tree line
  • cross through the tree line via the shortest route possible instead of walking along it
  • stick to marked skiing routes, forest tracks or open lanes
  • keep noise to a minimum
  • put your dog on a lead
  • do not touch
  • take litter home with you
  • do not stroke young animals
  • walk around (not through) winter habitats and feeding grounds
  • do not follow animal tracks
  • observe animals from a distance
  • avoid moonlit tours away from forest tracks
