The CHEESE FESTIVAL in Sand in Taufers attracts cheese lovers from all over Europe. Producers – also from various European countries – present their special, delicious and unique cheese varieties for tasting and sale.
What makes this market so special is the wide range of selected delicacies: chocolate, oil, bread, herbal products, mustard, wine, vinegars, tea, spirits, ham, yogurt and much more – a true treasure trove for food lovers!
With live cooking shows – featuring both South Tyrolean professionals and chefs from outside South Tyrol – “taste experiences” guided by renowned international cheese experts, a children’s program, Slow Food Presidia and specialty weeks, the festival becomes a true highlight for all the senses.
In the atrium of the Tubris Center, guided taste experiences by Slow Food invite visitors to discover cheese with all their senses – fully in line with the philosophy “good, clean and fair.” The Osteria La Campanara also delights guests with traditional dishes from Romagna-Tuscany, served daily from 11:30 a.m.
Cheese also takes center stage in the restaurants of Sand in Taufers and Mühlen in Taufers: from March 13 to March 22, 2026, selected restaurants present cheese specialty weeks, offering creative regional dishes that bring the flavors of the festival directly to the tables of the region.
Families can look forward to a varied children’s program: from making mozzarella and churning butter to preparing sweet treats such as orange tiramisu, panna cotta or chocolate mousse – here young food lovers can playfully discover how delicious specialties are made.
The festival is rounded off with exciting must-dos:
a special exhibition of cheese books at the public library, the exhibition “Flowers – Meadows – Life” at the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park House, and the legendary Cheese Party at the Icebar on all three evenings, promising even more moments of enjoyment.
