''Kofler zwischen den Wänden '' Kofler in between the Cliffs in Ahornach
Path Description: Begin the way up to the Kofler on the road towards the “Reintal” valley. Initially, travel along a broad towpath by the side of a forested trench then bear to the right up a steep rocky hillside. We find stairs with handrails at several points moreover the route is secured by wire in some places. The track ends at a meadow underneath a cliff. Now, turn right to climb to the Kofler in between the cliffs (1,528 m). The way back leads past the widespread farming area of Ahornach beginning over the boulders towards the “Kanzele” (1,674 m) sloping upwards. After a good view of the valley floor has been obtained), descend to the floor of Taufers gradually losing altitude. Taking short cuts to avoid the zig zags of the road, descend down to the church of Ahornach (1,334 m). Here, turn left on to an asphalt road (Marking 6b) which leads finally back to the “Reintal” valley road – the starting point of our circular route. Somebody who looks from the “Toblbrücke” bridge down into the “Reintal” valley won’t expect to find a farm on the left, high above the steep, rocky slopes: “Kofler zwischen den Wänden” (“Kofler between the cliffs”). It rightly has this name, even though the farm is located above a large meadow not a shelf of rock as the name might suggest. Behind the farm, there are rock walls and a wild high forest. Today the legendary farm is a popular stop for hikers with a great view into and out of the valley.
Starting point: Tobl (1,106 m) at the junction of the valley road to Ahornach and Rein (the car park is located in direction “Toblbrücke” bridge).
