The highest refuge hut in the Ziller Valley

If you enjoy holidaying in the Zillertal Valley (Austria), in South Tyrol (Italy), in the Pustertal Valley or even in the Ahrntal Valley, then don't miss out on a visit to the highest refuge hut in the Ziller Valley Alps.  You won't find an excessive number of mountain hikers and climbers in this area, because many people find the ascent too demanding or simply don't make the effort to really walk away from everyday stress and hectic .

In 1894, the Leipzig DOEAV section built the hut at an altitude if nearly 3,000 metres above sea level.  The Schwarzenstein hut lies at 2,923 metres and is still a first-class look-out point with unforgettable panoramic views to the surrounding 9,000 feet mountains, as well as a welcoming resting place after a demanding ascent or a hut to hut hiking trip.

- St. Johann - Kegelgassl Alm - Großes Tor - Rotbachtal - then follow the path nr. 23
- from the Chemnitz Hut to the Stabeler path (following the path 23a - walking time ca. 8 h)
